The Power of Prayer
The Power of Prayer Exodus 17:8-16 May 28, 2023 Pastor Sam DeVille Flint Baptist Church of Flint, TX Visit our website at: https://flintbc.net/ Connect with us: https://flintbc.net/connect/ Give: https://secure.myvanco.com/L-Z8ZG/home Ex 17:8-16 8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. 10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. 14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. 15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi: 16 For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation. The Amalekites Amalek was the grandson of Esau, the brother of Jacob. Esau had broken the commands of God, and went outside of Israel to find a wife. Esau married a Hittite woman named Adah and they had Eliphaz. Eliphaz had a Horite concubine named Timna who lived in the land of Edom. She gave birth to Amalek. So the roots of the Amalekite people came from the canaanites, Horites, and Hittites. The Amalekites were mostly a nomadic people that lived in the Negev, an area taking up most of the land to the south and south east of Israel. the Amalekites would attack the Hebrew stragglers made up of the elderly and the feeble that didn’t travel as fast as the rest of the group. there would be about 9 major battles in the bible between the children of Israel and the Amalekites 3 Thoughts On Prayer The Imperative Of Prayer Prayer is our power source. Jesus placed an emphasis on prayer. He prayed publicly before eating He prayed over the sick He prayed for his friends He prayed for his enemies He prayed for himself How much more should we get away from the craziness of this world and spend time with our heavenly father? The Power Of Prayer The truth is we all know about the power of the necessity of prayer; it's simply a matter of making it a priority. Because if Satan will stop you from doing anything it will be praying. It is by far the most important ministry you will ever participate in. The People Of Prayer When Moses' hands were up, Joshua began to win against the Amalekites. When Moses was weary and his hands fell down, Joshua began to lose. So Aaron and Hur jumped into action and placed a rock under Moses, then one held up his right arm, and one held up his left arm, and Joshua beat the Amalekites. One of the greatest things you can do to support people is to pray for those around you.
